Meadowbank Stadium to be demolished

In case you haven't heard Edinburgh Council has decided to demolish Meadowbank Stadium with all its wonderful facilities to make way for more overpriced crappy flats (probably).
On the positive side they will be replacing it with a new sports facility out at Sighthill! Who in their right mind would want to park there or even go there late at night?
No stadium, no gym, no squash/badminton courts, no velodrome (the city's only one), no 5-a-side football pitches, no classes, no running track . . . no Meadowbank's Open All Hours youth-club to keep the brats out of trouble . . .

No more gigs for bands too big for the Corn Exchange but too small for Murrayfield (Radiohead, the Pixies, Muse etc.) No fireworks display at a reasonable time and on one night only.

I've known they were a bunch of tossers for quite a while now - what with the mess they've made with send us our pay-in card last year, their wholesale neglect to provide decent recycling facilities to many of Edinburgh's tenements, their decision to give the go-ahead for demolishing part of the historic Canongate in order to build (surprise, surprise) more flats etc etc

Unfortunately this has been on the council mind off the past 3 years... I know this because I was made aware of this when I was working at an architectural practise, where I was actually working on digitising the old meadowbank plans (i.e. imperial) into a computer plan.

I think the original idea was for this was proposed up to 5 years ago. As a consequnce it maybe too late for it to be saved.
