Lauren is gross

After having become allergic to yet another brand of supposedly "good for you" shampoo and conditioner I've given up and decided to go shampoo free.

My current plan is to go with the bicarbonate of soda and apple cider vinegar method. One tbs of bicarb in a cup of water as shampoo and one tbs of vinegar in a cup of water as conditioner. I plan to keep this place updated with how it works out . . .

I've been warned that the first few weeks are probably going to be a grease-fest but I cannot take the constantly itchy scalp any longer and I really do not want to have to take antihistamines every single day just because my hair is used to product. (I had my GP aunt check for nits just in case I've picked them up from a kid again but she gave my head a clean bill of health.)

There may be photos at the end of this to show how my hair has responded to this treatment. There will be no pictures of the grease-fest.

Have you tried the naked shampoo range? Only one I can use.

It has a lot of similar ingredients to the Neem stuff my aunt gave me and that still made my head itch. Thanks for the suggestion. I might try it if being shampoo-free is a complete nightmare.

If you want to try some without buying a whole bottle give me a shout and I'll gt some to you.

That sounds like a brilliant idea. I'll let you know if I decide I do want to try it. Thanks!

My son just uses lots of warm water and a good scrub (and a cool rinse) and his hair is lovely and soft and shiny. Hope yours does better with the bicarb and cider vinegar. It'll be interesting to hear how it goes.

Been so long since I've looked at my LJ, catching up a bit :P
I use Naked stuff too (anti dandruff shampoo and then blonde conditioner) as H&S shampoo made my head itch.
I've not been brave enough to go down the ACV route.

I also follow this community as they bring up quite a few good tips and "me too" stories :)

Thanks for the community. I've looked at it before but that was years ago. I found a very useful post on going shampoo-free and shall be trying some of the tips in that. If this works it should work out much cheaper than proper shampoo and conditioner so I want to stick with it if possible. If it doesn't work out I will try the Naked stuff.
